IS-IT--Management

Scenario: we had a power outage. the network was put back in service and then the s8500 and gateways were powered back up. the server and ipsi are communicating via the cisco 6509 switches. for some reason when we turned the system back on, the ipsi could not see the network port and the cisco port could not see the ipsi. we then configured a new port and pluged the ipsi there and it worked. I then plug in a laptop into the old cisco port (where ipsi use to be) and it worked.

Question: I know that on ipsi version 36 and lower, the ipsi comes back up to 100 half after reset. I was told by AVAYA the issue was fixed on versions higher than 36. has anyone experience this before or can shed some light as to what may have happened?

I have no technical solution to your management problem

You need to upgrade that firmware, it's very simple to do and if you have two IPSI's it's not service affecting. I believe the latest version is version 40. If you don't have a process on how to upgrade IPSI firmware, let me know I'll give it to you. It's quick, simple and resolves a lot of quirks I had on my end.

You should still log into the IPSI and lock it down to 100/full.

it actually is locked down to 100 full.

Try this command first on the service port of the IPSI
"set port duplex 1 full" then " set port speed 1 100MB ".

Could someone post the upgrade procedure on the ipsi so I can have it. please!!!

testLed - Here are my IPSI firmware download instructions:

TN2312 IPSI Firmware Upgrade
* Tip – Start with upgrading the standby IPSI board, then when done switch the active IPSI and then upgrade the previously active one. Please read all instructions below before beginning.

Locate & Download Firmware Upgrade File
Place file in root of local C:\Drive
Save translations all
Display Alarms = note any alarms that were there before you begin.
Command: List ipserver-interface
Note which IPSI is in standby mode, this is the IPSI to upgrade first.
Open Internet Explorer and access Maintenance Web Interface:
and type in the IP Address of the Active Server.

Login: (your normal login & password – ensure you have SHELL ACCESS on your login set to: Y)

Launch Maintenance Web Interface
Under Miscellaneous, select “Download Files”
Browse for the IPSI Firware file you placed in the c:\ on your computer and then click “Download”
Under IPSI Firmware Upgrades Select Download IPSI Firmware
Select to start Download Now
Select the standby IPSI cabinet number
Select the correct IPSI firmware file & click Download firmware
Select "Start Time" for download
Target IPSI is the IPSI that was in Standby you noted above.
Choose the file you downloaded
Then select "Download Firmware"
=wait a bit=
Under IPSI Firmware Upgrades, select Activate IPSI Upgrade
Select the Standby Cabinet and Begin now, then click Activate IPSI upgrade:
=wait a bit=
Go to ASA and do a list configuration all. Or list config control. Ensure that the new version of firmware is on your IPSI board.

Display alarms.
Success

Now to switch over to the standby IPSI, in this case, IPSI A was in standby. To switch IPSI use command: set ipserver-interface a-all. (if standby was "B" then put in b-all).

List ipserver-interface – note that opposite server is now active and previously active one is in standby.

Repeat steps above to upgrade firmware for the other IPSI - Start at the step where you “Download IPSI Firmware” (Because the file is already on the server)

When done both IPSI’s should be the same firmware version.
If you have other IPSI's in your port networks, the procedure is the same however if your remote sites do not have redundant IPSI's they will loose connectivity during the firmware upgrade. Ensure you know the commands to bring your remote system back online before working on any single IPSI remote sites.

Good Luck!

Toni

ezncool,

did you ever find a solution to this?

we have a planned power outage coming up this weekend, so i'm trying to plan for similar issues.

thks

is the command set ipserver-interface service affecting or can it be done during normal business hours? It will not cause a reset withinn the PN or will any calls be dropped??

If you have redundant IPSI's and you have both of them connected to the network then no, it shoulden't be service affecting and no calls dropped, and no reset. If you have only one IPSI then you probably won't have any other location to set it to or it's a remote location with only one IPSI then it will go offline during an upgrade.

You go girl.. I still have the draft Toni.. :)

Hell, there are no rules here - we're trying to accomplish something.
