We have a couple NA sites where we are installing the IPO POTs units because you can no longer get the NA POTs units

We are getting some complaints about ports locking up no dial tone etc, the NA is 2.2(1070) and the IPO units are 1.3(30) as per AVAYA's recommendations.

Has anyone got any ideas why this occurs, we suspect its a PCS hardware version problem put that’s all we have so far

Yes, thats right, it could be, but then again it may not be, hard to say really, maybe when it is a sunny day the ports feel they should be at the beach and slack off a bit on their required tasks.

Downfgrade the POT unit to 2.2(1070) , all units should be at the same firmware level

In our case we are running the IPO POTs module on the Network Alchemy and the recommendation is that you us 1.3(30) in the pots its documented in one of the releases.

I have never seen this documented. all docs that I have seen state that the expansion modules should be at the same level as the system unit.
I would sugest giving it a try & see what happens

Here is the information from Alchemy Series Product Update Bulletin 13

(I have it in pdf format in anybody wants a copy)

IP OFFICE PHONE MODULES WITH ALCHEMY BASE UNIT
COMPATIBILITY

Avaya is pleased to announce that IP Office Phone 8/16/30 modules can be used in conjunction with Network Alchemy base units. We have completed testing in order to prove the compatibility of the IP Office Phone 8, Phone 16 and Phone 30 modules when used in conjunction with the ArgentOffice and ArgentBranch base units.

The following software units were used:
• ArgentOffice 2.2 (1070)
• ArgentBranch 2.2 (1070) and 2.3 (25)
• IP Office Phone units 3.3 (30)

The following combinations were tested successfully.

ArgentOffice
2.2(1070)
ArgentBranch
2.2(1070)
ArgentBranch
2.3(25)

with

IP Office Phone 8
3.3(30)
IP Office Phone 16
3.3(30)
IP Office Phone 30
3.3(30)

This expansion module compatibility will greatly assist resellers in maintaining existing Alchemy sites with IP Office Phone 8, 16 or 30 modules should extra capacity be required. Additionally distributors now only require a single stock of Phone modules.

Similarly IP Office DT, So8 and WAN-3 expansion modules can be installed on customers’ sites with ArgentBranch or ArgentOffice base units. However please be sure to downgrade these DT, So8 or WAN-3 expansion modules to a build that corresponds with the existing Alchemy base
unit software i.e. 2.2 for the ArgentOffice/Branch or 2.3 for the ArgentBranch.

This is an issue which I have experienced on several sites. It seems to make no difference as to what software levels are running. Speaking to Avaya, I believe that they will soon revise the Tech Bulletin to state that the IPO Pot module is not compatible with the Network Alchemy. Either that or release a properly tested version of software. Remember, you heard it here first!
