IPOFFICE 500 time server

Has anyone yet managed to add a time server that will update the time without having to resort to adding a route to a PC with Manager open and running on it for IPOFFICE500 with an embedded card?

Apparently this is the only way to get the IPOffice to update the clock.

That's fine as long as you have a server but I have half a dozen companies using laptops and no server just peer to peer and this means they have to manually update the clock via a system enabled phone (*9000* etc)

Ideally into the time server profile under system tab I want to add an atomic clock site with the correct setting enabled to update itself by checking the time via the internet.

Any thoughts would be gratefully received.

I have never done it but theoretically if your firewall and router don't block the request then you could use a public time servers IP address

this is a list of public IP servers that use the RFC868 protocol. set the time totally off then put in one of these IP addresses and reboot. If it comes back up with a time that looks better then all you need to do is set your time offset and you should be good to go.

But like I said it is just in theory that it works.
Post back if it does though so we know.

Bear in mond the RFC 868 time protocol that the IPO uses gives time in GMT so you will need to change the time offset under the system tab every 6 months.

I have a couple of customers not on a n/w so I have to dial in, set the to an internet dial up, reboot with this time server then take out the internet dial up. Pain in the arse but works.

As long as you have an IP Route for the above pointing out to the Interent via your router it should work a treat.

Strikes me if Avaya are listening to this site they take this into consderation.

At the end of the day a fully integrated system like this that relies heavily on time profiles for the main programming set up should generate it's own system time if an onboard voicemial card is fitted if you ask me!

or as mentioned every 6 months, why not get time from ISDN like other manufacturers,

don't know about you lot but twice a year we get plagued with calls from customers wanting the time changed, and it#s always after a long holiday weekend!!!!

Can't get time from ISDN in the UK. BT won't allow it.

Ascom does this and relies on it. The internal clock sucks and we are always having to update the time on them!!!!

Every system I have worked on needs the end user to manually change the time every six months. The fact that the IPO gets it from the network is a god send to me.

bring back the internal clock days! keep it simple and have a setting for DST

It has an internal clock and I've never seen it lose time. It just needs changing every six months if no vm/manager is available.

99% of installs, this is no problem.

The eay I see it, the fact that it will update from the vm/manager is a bonus.

Saying that, it would be nicer if it updated in NTP rather than RFC 868!!!!

if you have analog lines then you get the time stamp with the caller ID, like some other systems do. But I gues the analog line is dying too. Damn I feel old some days.
