Doing a downgrade from R5.0 to R4.2 and have some questions regarding the configuration. This is the first downgrade I'm doing so I'm limited on my knowledge with the process.

When I downgrade am I wiping the slate clean so to speak or will the configuration settings remain? Can I just do a config back up and then import it after the downgrade is complete?

A downgrade is the same as an upgrade, config is retained except any R5 only settings obviously :)

Why do you want to downgrade ?
Do you have problems ?
Shouldn't that be solved then instead of ignoring it by a downgrade ?

^ The client had a power supply failure on their IP 500 (which was about 14 months old) so the warranty replacement unit came in yesterday and when I did the initial upgrade it went to R5.0 even though all of the client's licensing and config is for pre-R5.0.

Aren't there compatibility issues with licensing/configs when going for a 4.X to 5.X? I'm not familiar enough with the major differences between R4 and 5. When running System Status I get a few alarms that the system is trying to do something it does not have a license for, obviously this never occurred in the past.

I'd love to hear your take on it though. Is it smarter to stay at 5.0?

v5 will make the odd licence line SCN / ASCN obselete. all others remain the same.

No VM Lite in v5

other than that, stick with 5.

Thanks for the response. This client is using Embedded VM so no worries there. I guess I will stick with 5, SS must be showing those alarms because of a config error and not a license-related issue. I'll go back and double check everything.

Thanks again.

SSA always give errors on licencing that are a load of cr4p/incorrect, make sure you have upgraded the prompts on the Embedded card :)

If you have an obselete license then remove it!
Expired licenses or obselete license can do strange things to a system!

ASC IP Office or is it ACSS :)

They actually don't have a single license, there are none to remove. Very basic set up for this client. SS was saying that I was trying to do something that required a license that I did/do not have.
