I know this may be a silly question but I've often wondered why there are so many releases with the ipo?

I would think that there's only so much that could be done with the telephone system and that only occasionally would a new version be released if there was a whole slew of new features.

Does anyone know why Avaya has the have has these releases and why are they so important? Is it to fix prior bugs?

Depends what you think is a lot of releases?

By my count, since the start of 2020 they've been supporting two main streams (R10.1.4 and R11.1) and have made 12 service/feature pack releases in that time. Their policy used to be to have a service or feature pack for each supported stream every 3 months - so they are actually well behind the old pace these days (2 streams x 4 release per year x 4 years = 32).

I had the joy of updating my collection of Avaya Workplace release notes this morning. Just on the Windows version, the Workplace folks have gone got through 44 releases in the same time frame.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

I think most of the major releases came with changes that they made to be able to charge you more... Like essential licenses... IP endpoint licenses and such. The minor releases mainly fixed stuff they broke with the previous release. (Cynical Response) [wink]
