Greetings Avaya Gurus -

My favorite "power user" has defined speed dials in Phone Manager Lite. She's been reading the help screens (imagine that!) and has noticed that users can be configured for Instant Messaging - and of course, now she wants it!

We're at IPO r8 with VM Pro. I've checked the options and haven't found anything regarding IM.

OK I admit it. IM capability would be cool.

I tried attaching a screenshot... no luck - but this topic is easy to find. From Phone Manager Lite, click "Help" / Contents, then drill down to Features / Speed Dials. You'll spot the green icon right away, "User is configured for Instant Messaging".

So ... How to configure users for IM? Maybe it's a feature we don't have? Any insight?

Thanks in advance!

It also says it's dependant on other software/services being present I believe, either way it is :)

Enabling Instant Messaging

Phone Manager provides support for Instant messaging with the Microsoft Live Communication Server (LCS). Instant messaging can occur between internal contacts that use the Microsoft Live Communication Server. For more information, see your system administrator.

When you have enabled instant messaging you can send an instant message using the a speed dial icon.

To enable instant messaging:
1. Click preference > Instant Messaging.
Alternatively, click View > Preferences > Instant Messaging. The Instant Messaging window opens.
imsetup
2. To turn instant messaging on check Enable Instant Messaging Support. If you have connection to a Microsoft Live Communication Server you need to check this box for other users to add you as an Instant Message user.
3. In the Server field, enter the name of the Microsoft Live Communication Server.
4. In the user name field, enter your e-mail account and domain as configured on the Microsoft Live Communication Server. For example myname@myserver.com.
5. In the Protocol field, click the type of protocol you are using to connect to the Microsoft Live Communication Server. You can choose from TCP, UDP and TLS.
6. In the Password field, enter the password associated with your Instant Message profile.
7. (Optional) For Phone Manager to remember your password check Password. You do not have to re-enter your password if this box is checked.
8. Click OK to save your changes.

Thanks for your responses. We don't use MS LCS so I guess she's outta luck.

Maybe someday...

Thanks again; much appreciated!

You could replace phone manager with One-X portal since you have Power user licences, or a third party CTI app like this

Hey there Hairless!

Very cool link, thanks! We do have one or two unused power user license - for Phone Manager Pro... not sure off-hand about One-X (is the One-X license interchangeable with PM Pro?....I guess I should call my vendor! :)

Also we use Google Apps (not MS Exchange). Some users use a CRM called "Solve 360" - which could (perhaps?) integrate the call manager with Google Apps.

A lot to learn; I think I'm behind the times.

Thanks!

one-x portal requires a server (one-x portal server) but you can run it on a Linux box if you want and don't have to shed out for MS licensing.
not interchangeable with PM pro I am afraid.

One X Portal can talk to Google talk if you set it up right.
One-X Portal is better then Phone manager except for two options that are not in Phone manager (queue stats and agent mode)

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

The most important thing to note is the version number of Phone Manager or rather that it hasn't changed for several years, ie. it's still supported (just) by Avaya but its not being developed or having any new features added, ie. its been a dead end for a long time. one-X Portal for IP Office, despite the things it can't do that Phone Manager can, is really the way to go.

one-x portal has only one slight problem that I found, it is really eating on your processor resources, so don't try and run it with an old Pentium4 :)

Hello and thanks for your replies!

I did get the One-X pricing from my vendor. Not too bad!

Westi: Darn it! :) There's a 286 sitting around I was gonna use!
