IPO Paging with Valcom speakers

The more threads I read the more confused I am for what I thought would be an easy situation to fix.

I have IPO with an analog extension configured as a paging port with a short code etc.
It works great with my telephone test set in monitor so I know the config is good but it doesn't like a direct connection to the Valcom speaker.

Which device do I need to make it work? Valcom V-2000A, Valcom VMT-2, or a Bogen WMT1A

It looks the the V2000A will work but it maybe more than they need since the speakers are already existing and were working before the replacement of their Nortel with the IPO and they already have the power supplies and it's kind of big compared to the other 2 options.

Some of the threads asy: you don't need the VMT-2, some say that's all we use, others say use the WMT1A so it's a bit confusing. It does seem like the VMT-2 and WMT1A are similar with the WMT1A having a 600 ohm output as well as a 10k ohm output.

I would prefer to use of one of the $30.00 VMT-2 or WMT1A really for their size and they don't need power but if it's the V2000A that is needed then that's OK and it's only $100

I don't know the proper term but what is the output level from the Avaya paging port?
I can find documentation for the Nortel that says its paging port is 600 ohms and I found Valcom documentation that says its speaker inputs are 600 ohms so I'm curious what the Avaya is.

Thanks.

Hi Steve,
I have wrestled with this myself and I am sure others on here will give a better answer than what I am about to offer.

I use the self amplified speakers most of the time, on occasion, some type of traditional amplifier. It seems to be related to what I refer to as the load across the tip/ring of the port that you are connected to. My new standard is a higher wattage (for heat dissipation) 2.2K resistor across the tip / ring. This seems to do the trick when I am working with self amplified speakers. I have used a UPAM with success as well. In the end, I think you just need to load down the port a little so it isn't seen as busy.

Hope this helps
Mike

This is my latest go to for interfacing paging to IPO analog station port programmed as a paging port.

Last one I did with existing Valcom self-amplified speakers, there wasn't time to get anything ordered. I happened to have a 70-volt speaker matching transformer in the truck, used an ohm meter to measure from common to several of the 70-V wattage taps until I found a combination that was around 600 ohms. Put that across tip and ring and finished up the job.

The IPO is a 600 ohm out put. We use the VMT-2. It is a staight 600-600 isolation transformer. The WMT-1A is a 600 to either a mic level or line level output designed to connect to a mixer amp. Valcom speakers expect a 600 ohm input.
