We seem to be getting a lot of sites being installed IP hardphones, in very large qualities. Resellers are looking for specific documentation relating to exactly how Vlans should be configured when you are implementing Avaya phones on 802.1p/q switches with IPO. I am aware of the Lan admistrators guide however this makes only real reference to acm and clan / prowler card configuration.
Also from my point of view understanding Vlan technology is simple however end users seem to be installing the 412 with say port 1 connected to Vlan 1 (Data) and port 2 connected to the Voice ( Vlan 2). At this point the IPO is also configured for L3 routing between the subnets, and we seem to get many issues with quality when configured this way.
My mindset / Thinking has always been to configure the ipo with a single network connection Eg Lan 1 and then bind both Vlans to the port which is unlinked to the IPO and then use a router to Route the L3 traffic between the vlans. I cannot find any documents stating exactly how this configuration should be configured. has anybody found or written a document relating to general configuration when IP phones are used, Exact Vlan config and sample configurations from both Avaya and Cisco switches which is what every body seems to be using.
Cheers
