I have recently setup an IPO 9.0 using 1608, 9620 and 9641 series phones. Basically we have the IPO doing dhcp on a 192.168.44.xxx/24 scheme. Note we have the option check only Avaya phones. Also on the network there a dhcp server for the data. For the data there's dhcp in 192.168.1.xxx/24 range. The phones and IPO are connected to an Hp with vlan 1 (data) ports 1-28 untagged and voice vlan 20 ports 1-28 tagged. I must note the system is working fine, so far. My question is trying to understand how my phones when initially plugged into the switch know to go the vlan 20. I have no option 242 set since the phones are getting dhcp from the IPO but they phones will always go to vlan 20 when booted. Can someone explain why or the boot process of the ip phones

Regards,

Ahmedat.

The phones will remember the voice vlan when it has found it once.
But when a phone is new or cleared then you must have option 242 in the data vlan telling the phones the vlan they need.
This can be done by LLDP or by a DHCP server.

All you need is the L2Q=1,L1QVLAN=20
Then the phones know vlan 20 and will do a new DHCP request in the correct vlan.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!
