IPO 8.1 Upgrade - Allowed to patch service packs within same release?

So I know this is a noob question and I tried searching but could not find a answer. With the new upgrade license stuff, do I need to buy a new license for upgrade within a major release? IE> I purchased the 8.1 upgrade license a few months ago (December) for a client to go from 6.x to 8.1. VM Pro crashes sometimes and I now want to patch with the 8.1 SP6 from 8/30/13. Can I do that or do I need to pay for another upgrade license once I'm outside 90 days?

8.1.xx can go to 8.1.xx without a license.
If you want to go to 8.2 (does not exist, just an example) or 9.0 then you will need a license.
