I know there's a license required to upgrade to 7.0, but if I downgrade to 6.0 and it doesn't help my SIP and faxing issues, can I bring it back to 7.0 without that license? Anybody done this or is it even worth the trouble?

It remembers the highest level it's been at and is licences to that level, you can downgrade if you wish :)

capthoward, what issues do you have?

Do you have no audio issues after the first announcements?
What fax issues do you have? Do they stop working after a while?

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

I wasn't sure about that, so good to know! I think I might try doing a backup, defaulting the boxes, and then loading the backup back in.

Kind of a long story but bear with me...

I have 3 systems in a SCN that all came out of the box at 7.0(5). The "Main" system has 48 SIP lines, and the other two have no trunks just IP phones and analog ports for fax machines. The "Main" site also has the VM Pro on it. I thought everything was fine until the customer told me one day that they couldn't fax to a long distance number from the remote sites. Sure enough, the carrier told me that local and toll free were routed out from them on PRI's but LD calls went out from them on another SIP line. The "Main" site has a FaxFinder that works everytime, but when the call goes out from the remote side, the call never renegotiates to G711 and it either hangs or hangs up. Usually it hangs up. So, I see that Avaya releases 7.0(23) with some SIP fixes in the release notes, so I upgraded the sites and at the same time changed the "Main" site to G.711 in the System-Telephony field. That all seemed to help until they sent a fax out and it crashed the system. Then every five minutes when it tried to resend the fax, it crashed the system.

So, thats a little crazy and I'm scrambling to find a solution so that they can use their fax machine again...

Thanks for any help!

We have isues with sip trunks and no speech.
Also we have fax issues where faxes just stop working.
The speech issues can be solved by unchecking the re-invite but then the faxing stops working.
This all worked fine on 6.1 without any of those issues.

Do you like a particular 6.1 release? I'm thinking about taking them all down since I don't have Nortel phones, nor will I ever on this system...

There is nothing wrong with 6.1 so i use the latest for customers who will use sip trunks.
If they need 7.0 then we use ATA's for the faxes that register to the sip provider and we turn of re-invite.

I still think it is a bug while Avaya blames on using NAT twice which is nonsense to me.

I don't use NAT for anything because the Main system is actually located in the carrier's building in a rack right next to their MetaSwitch...actually on their network! Looks like I'll be headed down to 6.1...

tlpeter, I have the queue announce issue with SIP and we do not double NAT, it's bollocks, and why would it only stop after a certain announcment but speach and everything else works up to that point?.... they need to wake up and smell what they are shoveling :)

Ok looks like Manager 6.1 won't work. When I pull up the IPO it shows "Unsupported" and won't let me connect to the system...any ideas? Am I missing a step?

Ahhh....yes that works better. It shows one thing in the list that it won't let me check off...DIG ADPx16...any idea what that is?

Ok, so now all of my systems are at 6.1. I have tested, tested, and tested some more and the results are:

1. I haven't been able to make the system crash, so thats good.
2. I am able to make and receive calls, so thats good.
3. I am able to send faxes and receive faxes, so thats good.
4. In order to make and receive faxes, I had to set the remote system to use G.711 exclusively and turn off fax transport support, so thats no good.

For the locals here at the moment, G.711 will be ok but very soon I am taking two systems out west to install for their other offices that will connect over MPLS with limited bandwidth. I really need to have these systems recognize fax tone and then set up the call accordingly.

Anybody have a suggestion?

Faxing must be done with G711 or T.38
G729 is not an option, it will fail.

Exactly, trouble is in the SCN the fax won't automatically change to G.711 on its own, so the whole system has to be set for G.711. Now all the traffic in and out is G.711...which is a bandwidth issue. Not to mention, it should be smart enough to renegotiate...or maybe I'm not smart enough but thats inconceivable...

Here's a cool added feature to downgrading the software....the Park button no longer unparks the call! I think I need to downgrade the phone firmware, I'll let ya know!

Andy, my idea too.
They are talking rubbish.

Capthoward, it could be the firmware indeed.
