Hi Folks,

I am fairly new to IP Office and have been requested to upgrade our PBX from version 8.1 (8.1(73)) to release 9 including Voicemail Pro version.

Is there a step-by-step guide available for this? Also, any advice or information (gotchas) regarding the upgrade would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards,
Charles.

This is a licensed upgrade. you cannot just upgrade the software without the proper license. You need to get that license through an authorized Avaya Partner. They can also assist with the upgrade.

make sure you do backups before you start :)
also make sure you have the old firmware still handy in case you screw up but that is hard going from 8.1 to 9.0 if you have the license

And if you have to go back down, you might be locked out.
Have a Serial cable ready, or follow the instrucktions in the FAQ on downgrade.

Kind regards

Thanks guys. I have the licenses and I will certainly do backups before I start.

...so I see there is a downgrade procedure available, what about a documented upgraded procedure?

Thanks.

Upgrade procedure is provided by Avaya, you will find that at support.avaya.com.
Search "IP Office" in downloads, pick 9.0, find the release, and the document link in the right pane will lead you straight to it.

It's pretty straight forward, either use upgrade feature or recreate the SD card, with a R9.0 Manager
The first option takes a lot more time, but is probably your best choice.

I have a feeling this is uncharted waters for you, so maybe you should do this on-site?
If anything goes wrong, you have a better chance bringing it back to life that way.

Kind regards

Gunnar

Gunnar, this in chartered waters indeed but hopefully, it will go well. The key is to have a good backup plan. Thanks for your help.

In most cases, it does [smile]

After the upgrade, use Manager to open the config, go to file> Advanced> Security settings...
If you get straight in, you need to default the security settings, save and re-enter.
Set new passwords/disable unused accounts and save again.

Kind regards

Hi ...

Iam going to upgrade from version 8.1 to release 9, whats the suitable Manager should be installed before upgrading.
on the Avaya support there is Administration from SP 1 to SP4.
also I have all TCM8 cards and one Trunk 4 UNI, its nessarry to disconnect these cards before upgrading.
and disconnect the LAN if I have VMPro.

Thanks

Use the latest manager version and leave all hardware in IP Office as it is, no nood to disconnect/disable anything.
Easiest way to upgrade is to take the SD Card from the IP Office, connect it with a card reader to the Manenger PC amd pick "recreate SD Card" within the manager.
When the card is recreated it will be on the latest firmware and the customers config is unchanged.
Put the SD card back in IP Office and reboot. Done.
A IP Office will run two hours without a problem if you remove the SD card so the process of recreation must be done within two hours, it takes about twenty minutes to recreate a SD card.

Hello Intrigrant ...

Thank you for your clarification steps, one thing I want to make sure that upgrade license should be installed before pick up the SD card from IP Office, last thing that with your steps above there is no need to upgrade using file>>Advanced>>Upgrade,

Thanks.

That's correct.

Kind regards

Gunnar

Thanks you Mr. Gunnaro, Thanks Intrigrant ..

You are the Best .

Hi Guys,

I still haven't managed to get any documentation for upgrading the PBX to R9. I had a look on the Avaya site and found a document called "IP Office Unified Communications Module - SSD Firmware Upgrade" that might help but I can't download it. Apparently, I don't access to the PLDS site.

Is this the correct document and procedure or should I keep searching?

Thanks.
Chazz.
