Hello all,
I turn once again to this forum for help as i have always found it to be spot on.

I have an IPO 500 system. i recently purchased an ip400 DS16 shelf. i have it connected to my system but can't get the light on the front to go green nor can i get the system to recognize it. i have done a number of restarts. etc. when i first deployed this new shelf i powered it on and let it sit powered on unconnected to the system for hours and no green light. i then shut down my system. connected it to the expansion port 1 on the back of my IP500 and restarted the system. still no luck. i am running software 4.2.11 i have been told i need to upgrade the software. (i do currently have a upgrade to Pro license on my 4.2.11 system.)

can anyone explain the migration path as i understand that there are also concerns about my embedded voicemail while performing this 5.0.15 upgrade.

thanks and let me know if i need to post more info.

regards
mark

The led should be solid green or flashing green.
Anything else means it is not working.
If no led then it has no power or it is dead.
If orange it is out of software.

So which one is it :)

Where was this DS16 from? Just return it...or is it an Ebay special ?(excuse the language)

Thanks everyone.

I am staring at a solid red light.

i bought it through the vendor i bought the IPO500 from. he has always been reputable and have no indication at this point that it is a bad system and if it is bad that he wont take it back. i just wanted to check with all of you first to make sure it wasnt something i was doing wrong.

Yes, solid Red is not good :)

ok no good like i have to return it or no good like i need to upgrade software to get it to work. is there a way to reset the ds16 to factory? or does it have its own onboard software? etcc.
thanks

No good as in send it back, you could attempt to DTE it but that may just knack it further and make you liable plus why should you. I would just send it back and ask for another :)

No worries, you should really be getting an IP500 exapansion module unless you are getting it for a nice price of course :)

spend the saving on a can of spraypaint.

this was totally cost motivated. i could have gotten an IP500 shelf but there was a considerable cost difference. besides, the white loks so nice among my other hardware. hahaha

Tom,
i'd spray paint it pink if that would make it work!!!

message is out to my vendor lets see what happens.

Thanks again everyone.

Ok so after a while i'd like to bump this thread again as this is a continuation.

I now have a newer ip400 DS30 this time I have a flashing green light on the front of it. Progress I would say.

The thing is manager doesnt show the shelf. I see my main control unit and the cards in it but i dont see the expansion unit.

I have it cabled with a very short cat5e pinned out to 568b its less than a foot long. I was told that is ok. ?

I have since upgraded my system and now i am running 5.0.8

However the upgrade license from standard to pro i had installed, now shows obsolete. Is that because its not needed with 5.0.8 or because the upgrade killed the license.

Any thoughts on what my next step should be. I have my 17th and 18th employee starting monday and need to get this thing up and running for them or they wont have a phone.

Thanks Again
Mark

obsolete means with R5 it is no longer needed but not broken.
The original patch cable is shielded and 1m (3Ft) long but it should still work with another patch cable at least for testing, if weird issues come later then the original is always best.

Great good to know. thanks Westi.

I have no problem getting a cat6 shielded cable from the store I just dont have on here. I'm guessing that's not what is causing the shelf to fail to sync with the main unit though.

you could try to default the processor and then plug in the expansion module and see if that helps. You could also try port 2 on the unit to see if the port 1 expansion port is bad.
flashing green means no connection to the processor out of whatever reason.

A flashing green led means it is not registered to the ipoffice.
You need to restart the ipo and then it will register.

Westi / TL Thanks.

I have restarted the system a number of times.

I have choosen reboot through manager.

I have pulled the power cord from the back of the main cabinet.

I have pulled power to both cabinets then started the expansion module, when i saw a flashing green i then plugged in the main cabinet.

I still just have a flashing green light siting over there laughing at me.

I have not tried to default the system I have a question about that. If i default the system I will be able to just drop my config from a recent save file back in? What will happen if anything to the ccr files and voicemails on my embedded voicemail? Will they get erased or will they stay there?

I think the first thing I will try is a proper cable first

then I will try to move it to expansion port 2

then I will try to do a reset to default.

Another question. does anyone know if the expansion module will ever be recognized on a running system or are expansion modules only picked up on reboot.

(Cue expert advice now!!!)

Thanks folks

The expansion modules are only recognized when they are first booted.
If the ipo is booted first then you will have a flashing green light on the modules.

What is the length of your cable ?
I advice the original cable which can be ordered at your BP.

the cable is not more than 12" pinned out to 568B standard.

it is not shielded however at that length i didnt think it would matter much.

is there a spec on the cable? ordering the cable from my vendor is not as quick as walking down the corner and picking one up from a computer store. will a cat6 patch cable short length do?

Yes a Cat6 will do but it can not be longer then 0,5 meter.
It should be a shielded cable!
