Hi,

recently we had to replace the UPS in the office and turned everything off, including both of our Avaya IPO 500 & 406.

The that LEDs on the front of the IPO406 row A 1 to 4 used to come on (stable green light), however now there is nothing, the lights are off. It does not look like there's an active connection b/n the IPO406 and the Expansion module IP500 BRI So8.

Kit:
- Main phone system IPO 500
- Test phone system IPO 406
- Expansion module IP500 BRI So8

The setup is as follow:
The IPO 406 is connected to the IP500 BRI So8 Expansion module, which in turns is connected to the main phone system IPO 500. We have 4 RJ45 cables going from the Expansion Ports on the IPO 406 (back of the 406 - 1 to 4 port) to the IP500 BRI So8 (1 to 4).

I have tried the following:
- checked and replaced the cables
- rebooted both phone system and the Expansion module
- checked that the Expansion module is still detected by the main phone system IPO500
- tried different cable types straight through, Ethernet, Basic Rate ISDN and E1/T1 Primary Rate ISDN (followed the wiring here - no changes have been made to the short codes or internal logic of both phone systems

Unfortunately, the company phone system engineer left a few months ago and I have now been tasked to resolve the issue.

Any help, advise, directions will be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Krasi

Forget the IP406, it is good for a step-up in the kitchen.
Did the S08 ever work on the IP500?
Does the light on the So8 comes up after powering up?
99 of 100 times the PSU of the S08 fails, replace it.

The expansion port on the back of an IP Office Control Unit connects to the port on the back of the expansion module and that's it. And if we get pedantic, using the official blue or yellow cables only.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

Hi intrigrant,

The IP406 is only used for testing as the main telephony setup is going through the IP500.

- Yes, the S08 worked as expected before the power went down in the office (when we replaced the office UPS).
- Yes, main power light comes on as normal
- Replacing the S08 unit or setting it on fire :) are options I am considering but want to go through all options, in case I have missed something obvious.

At the rear of the IP500 there are 8 RJ45 connecttions grouped together numbered from 1 to 8.
Use a 1m CAT 5 or higher shielded LAN cable and put one end in one of the eight connetcors ( the lowest free one)
the other end of the cable is to connect at the rear of the S0 module while powered off.
then power up the S08 module and power cycle the IP500,
miracles do exsist if you believe in it.
