I have tried to upgrade an IPO 406v2 from 3.1.29 to 3.1.999 in order to bring it up to 4.x. I am only upgrading the control unit at this time. The upgrade wizard gets to 99% (checking) and then returns error msg "Transfer Failed".
I have read a number of the tech bulletins (including 36 and 80) and am coming up with no explaination. Any ideas?

Here is what I have done / pert info.

Unit is 406v2 (PCS 8) w/ 48MB avail mem.
Directly connected (IP) to the unit (the only device).
VPN client/adapter disabled on the PC.
Working and Binary directories verified.
Manager's TFTP log shows activity when downloading .cfgs (do not see any activity in the log when running the upgrade)
Using Manager 5.2(61)
Using XP Pro with a valid IP address.

Thanks,
Russ

Load the 4.X Manager you are going to be using and upgrade to the .999 level using that, then up to the 4.x level of the Manager. Also make sure you reboot the PC after upgrading the Manager as not doing that can cause upgrading units to fail.

Thanks for the response amriddle01.
In your post you reference upgrading Manager 4.x twice....am I missing something?
Also, is there a problem with backwards compatability on the Manager? If memory serves, I had similar upgrade problems using a previous version of Manager (5.1(29) I think).

Thanks again!

No I mean upgrade to 3.1.999 using 4.x manager (which shows as 6.X) by changing the working directory then change the working directory back to normal and upgrade as normal. Two upgrades of thwe system not Manager, and there are no backward compatability issues.

Hey amriddle01,

Tried again using the lastest release with the same exact results. Any other thoughts?

Thanks,

Make sure you've ticked "Enable BootP and TFTP Servers" in the Preferences.

This tab is accessed through File | Preferences and then selecting the Preferences sub-tab.

Check windows firewall, the manager is not a very reliable tftp server. You could use 3cserver or MV_IPTel

It works! Now if only I could remember what I did...

The other thing you could try is downgrade to 3.0.99 and see if that helps. Maybe that was missed before.

I have performed the upgrade and it appeared to be successful (except I forgot to update the .bin files to the tftp server...so the telephones displayed "waiting to upgrade firmware). I placed the 4.2.11 bins on the tftp server and rebooted. I then tried to login to the IPO to verify I had the correct IP address for the tftp server in the config, but now I can not login with the password I have been using for years (or the default). The error msg is "can not login. Denied".
Any ideas on why that happened and how to fix. I do not have an appropriate serial cable with me to dte in.

So you cant log in using password as the password?

and Administrator as the username?

or with your old password?

caps lock? lol

User :Administrator Pass:Administrator or it should be.

oh yeah. silly me, saw 3.1(29) at the top then turned my eyes off

I was able to get into the IPO w/ the admin/admin (Thanks!)

But the IPO is not coming up and I am getting the following error msgs in monitor. The 3.55 address is the PC running Manager.

Your thoughts?

What do you mean it's not coming up? It must be to talk to it with Manager. With Manager running open the TFTP log. what do you see in there?

Also is the PC on the same LAN/subnet as the system?

if you are trying to upgrade the phones. make sure your working directory is set to where the bin files are.

then reboot the IPO. and watch the tftp log

Thanks Tom and amriddle. I was an idiot and had an IP in the wrong field (license server)where not needed. As for phone upgrades...had to use a 3rd party tftp sever as the Manager one only seemed to work with the config updates.

Thanks again for your assistance...where do I send the beer?

Just a side note, embedded voicemail passwords did not transfer with the upgrade. Don't know if that is typical or not. Just an FYI
