IPM microsoft mail note

i've been getting these files lately, and worst of all, the morons that sent it to me, include no file extention.. so i opened it up in dos, and it told me it was an:

IPM.MICROSOFT.MAIL.NOTE1

i was wondering how i could open this.. i tried with outlook, and it didn't seem that it could do it.. anyone have any idea?

these files are from a trusted source.. they're just over seas.. so i figured they had some "ancient software"

doesn't anyone here have any slight idea as to what it is?
