iPlanet LDAP Directory and Netscape SDK for Java

I'm relatively new to LDAP and I've sucessfully installed iPlanet Directory 5.1 on my machine and am using Netscape's SDK for Java. Everything is working fine and I'm able to do queries and updates. My question is has anyone worked with 'aging' passwords and querying LDAP to bring back all the groups a specific DN is assigned to? I'm able to change a password, just like any other attribute but I want to determine if a password is about to expire and if it is, prompt the user enter a new one. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
