HELP!

We have an AS/400 e-series 9406-600 for legacy A/R DMS software (historical archives), which has been running problem free for almost a decade (IT JUST RAN!) - until now, screen blank, can no longer login to the system using client access, and cannot telnet or ping the server.

We may need to do an IPL, reset or otherwise reboot the server but (lucky him), our resident AS/OS/400 guru is out of the country and unavailable (MURPHYS LAW).

We have tried IBM online but our AS/400 server is outdated and unsupported so no info available and we cant find any instruction manuals.

Grateful if you could instruct us as to the correct procedure to gracefully reset an AS/400 e-series 9406-600 server, restart the server so that we could at least ping and telnet into the server to further troubleshoot.

Please advise at the earliest convenience, thanks.

Grateful for any assistance.

Terrence

first, the obvious, check the control panel on the system. look for a yellow/orange led being lit. if so, then look at the lcd display and record the src (system reference code). you will use that to start troubleshooting. if that is clear, check the system console for a logon display. if you have a logon display, logon as qsysopr. check the joblog and history logs for errors. try to ping out from the box.

if you can logon, but cannot ping out, then have the network guys check the patch cable from the 400 to the hub/switch and the port on the hub/switch.
