We have a Customer who would like to try using iPhones as clients on the Mitel 3300, operating on SIP. This would allow users roaming the building with an iPhone in their pocket to make and receive internal and external calls.
From what I can see there are two apps that some people have tried on the iPhone 4 with some success:
and
The latter can be tested using their free “lite” version:
Does anyone have any Customers these or any other iPhone apps successfully?

Yes

We have had success with this on MCD 4.1

There is an knowledge base article on MOL called

Configure the Vnet iSip on the Apple iPhonewith MCD 4.1

I have used iSip client fine on an iTouch. The thing to remember is you may get some issues if you are moving when talking. Most purpose built WiFi phones have software that allows for a graceful handoff between adjacent acess points. I don't think the iSIP or other software will have that built in.

The single biggest problem with communications is the illusion that it has taken place.

you may want to look into making sure those things are always charged....everytime I use a sip client, the client is never the issue, but the battery life on my phone tends to be.
