Greetings, I have two buildings that are connected by a dedicated T1. Each building has it's own T1 for internet service.
Sometimes, the T1 between the buildings goes down. So, I installed an IPCOP net2net vpn and in the event my dedicated T1 goes down, traffic is automatically routed over my IPCop VPN.
The only problem is that the traffic is extremely slow. For example, printing a work order usually takes a few seconds, but over the vpn it takes about 5 minutes.
I realize that there is overhead because of the encryption process as well as latency from going over the internet.
Is there a way to speed up traffic over the VPN. Do I need to have faster machines....(currently using P4s, with 256MB of RAM)?
