Hello!

Is there something similar to ipconfig(windows) in linux and unix that i can use to get the ip address of my computer?

Im not that good unix based operating systems but i thought i read somewhere that it was ifconfig for unix... i could be wrong though

You are correct, and at least under AIX, the command:
ifconfig -a will show you all the interfaces that are on the system. try "man ifconfig" for more info...
