hello
i just ran across this in 2 of my 3 servers
the 2 DC's have it as "unknown"
while my member server (mail server) has "broadcast"

now, i know of no browsing issues going on here so why would this appear as such?

kaizer,

The node type in ipconfig/all refers to a WINS setting, used to determine how WINS replication affects the DC.

If your DC's don't communicate with any client machines using WINS or replicate WINS with other DC's, then I would say it's safe to ignore.

Is NetBIOS over Tcpip disabled?

My Windows 2003 server shows node type as unknown and I have disabled NetBIOS over Tcpip.

Wishdiak is right. If you're not using WINS (it's not needed in 2000 & 2003 if you're using Win32 based machines), then the node type will say "unknown"
