Hi,

This is my second post on this topic. I am using RedHat verssion 7.0. I have to upgrade the kernel but I am going to get the disks from RedHat because there are just too many dependencies to get them one at a time. But I would like to get NAT and ipchains working. I have version 1.3.9 for ipchains. Modprobe is version 2.3.14. I've tried pmfirewall, but have not had any success. Also, my /etc/hosts file has one entry which is the loop back address 127.0.0.1 and the server's name

This is so annoying! Setting up my mail and web server was simple compared to this

Feeling real stupid,

Thanks for your help,

Hi,

I'm not aware that there were any specific bugs in 1.3.9 - certainly the changelog for 1.3.10 doesn't show any major things fixed --> .

If you are going to upgrade the kernel may I suggest you move to the 2.4.x series and start using iptables which is the successor to ipchains. You would probably be best off to move to Redhat 7.1 (or maybe 7.2) because redhat x.0 releases tend to be a bit buggy and 7.0 was no exception. I think most people find 7.1 much more problem free, possibly even than 7.2 .

In case you don't know the recently revamped home page of iptables (netfilter)is here --> . You can get stuff on ipchains from .

Hope this helps

Man do I feel stupid. Everything was right. I had the DNS settings wrong. STUPID!

Thanks for your help
