Ipchains question ?

Hi all,

I have just set up Ipchains for my box, and I wonder why I need add code " modprobe ipchains " into file /etc/rc.d/init.d/rc.local ? If I don't do that, is IPchains run well, too ? ( I think I have already installed Ipchains package, so this module has been added into system. When system need this module, system will automaticlly loads it then, so I needn't load Ipchains module onto memory with modprobe utility, am I right ? )
