hi guys..

i was wondering whether anyone has tried running Squid in transparent mode on a 2.4 kernel, but using IPChains instead of IPTables...

u see, in 2.2, you can configure the kernel with transparent proxy.. but in 2.4, u have an option that says REDIRECT TARGET, which is under the NetFilter config...

would running a REDIRECT IPChains rule work with a 2.4 kernel that has this option enabled and compiled..?..

all help appreciated..

Have you tried modifying your 'chains' firewall to 'tables' ?

I was reluctant to do so myself.. but once I did.. I was very happy w/ the results heh

your current script for "IpChains" only needs a moderate amount of restructuring

well, i just looked at the source, and the IPChains module, which can be compiled in the 2.4 kernel, says it provides backward compatibility including Masquerading and Redirect on the 2.4 kernel, as u traditionally would on a 2.2 kernel, so i guess it does work out of the box...
