I am trying to get masquerading to work. I've got an internet connection on eth0 (IP: 208.29.12.4), and have dhcpd setup on eth1. Eth1 is supposed to give out dhcp addresses that have access to the internet. For some reason I cannot get those systems to browse the net.

The computers do get a dhcp ip address, however do not route the net. I am confused by this one. I even tried to set the eth1 default gateway to 192.168.1.254 but when I tried the route command, the listing came up really slowly and I could tell the net connection had slowed to a crawl as well.

Thanks fro any help! Rninja

it sounds to me like it might be your firewall script thats not configured right. if you can get a ping reply from the linux box itself then everything else is handled by the firewall script as far as masquerading goes. also leave the routing of eth1 alone. on each client pc also make sure their default gateway is 192.168.1.1 or whatever the internal IP of the linux box is.

I have the same problem, but instead I have assigned a fixed IP on both sides. My eth0 nic is my internal nic and eth1/ppp0 nic is my ISP (DSL) fixed IP nic. For some reason when I set the default gateway to eth0, no one can browse the web or even connect for that matter. I have monitored the traffic through the network monitor (in RH 7.3) so I know it is hitting the nic. I even reinstalled the OS and checked every box (eth0 and eth1) for the trusted services (i.e. DHCP, WWW, etc). I should be able to surf. The error I keep getting is it can't resolve the address of the url. I have DNS and DHCP serving from a Windows 2000 server and have confirmed via nslookup that it properly resolves names to IPs. Any suggestions?
