do we use kill -9 or is there something else?

If the process ID is truelly 262147 and that is the one you want to kill then:

kill -9 262147

Run this to make sure it is not running after that:
ps -ef | grep 262147

Thanks KarstenJHilton,
I was not sure if ID and PID are one and the same.
I also thought that there was a diff way to release IPC resources.

Also, you should always try kill before kill -9... that will give the process a chance to clean up the IPC resources itself.

Annihilannic.
