Hello,

Questions, questions..please help me:

1) I have an IP401 [small edition] with software version 2.1(15) and would like to upgrade it to version 3.0(40) because I programmed bridge apperances in an user ext and it is not working..

2) I have three co lines coming into the IP401 and configured them in Incoming Call Route to go to specific extensions but a second incoming call gets a busy signal, even though there are three apperances in each ext. what else do i need to do..

3)I can not transfer a call to an external number..such as transfer an incoming call to a cell number..

Please help me..
Thanks,

Zulma

So sorry..about question 1.- is this doable and can I upgrade from 2.1.(15) straight to 3.0.(40)? or are steps to follow?..

Thanks again..

1.) There are steps, read the technical bulliten attached to the 3.0 (40) on support.avaya.com Also, take it to 3.0 (44) since it's the latest GA.
2.) Make sure "Call waiting on" is ticked for the callers under the telephony tab.
3.) On the "lines" section under "analog" make sure "allow forwading" is ticked on all of the CO lines.

Thank bwilch!

your answer (3) worked..but I still get the busy signal on questions 2 even thought "call waiting on" is on.

About question 1) I have the version 3.0(40) on a CD but the ip401 can't find it when I launch the upgrade wizard...grrr..user error provably..any sugestions? I'm doing this from IP Manager v5.0(40)
Thanks again..

In regards to the upgrade, look here:
This is a technical bulliten that Avaya has put together about upgrading the system.

In regards to the busy signal... hmm... I think I have the answer. Here's an example.

Let's say you have the following numbers
5551234 Pointed to station 1234
5551235 Pointed to station 1235
5551236 Pointed to station 1236

I'm assuming you do not have any type of roll over setup. Therefore, if someone calls 5551234 and speak with the user, when a second call is placed to 5551234, it has no where to go. It has nothing to do with the IP Office, but with the fact there is no roll over setup on your lines since they're pointing to specific lines.

The multiple appearances will allow you to place calls to internal number, but it won't open up your ability to take multiple calls on one analog line.

You are right! that is what exactly I have. Where do i set a roll over? in a hunt group? and then point the incoming number to the hunt group..

What they want is:

Have 3 CO lines be able to use as incoming/outgoing for extensions 1234, 1235, 1236 [following your example]

5551234 Pointed to station 1234. When sta 1234 is in use, have a second incoming line [to 5551234] go to 1234 too. at the same time if the user places on hold the line, be able to dial out and external number on the second line..how can i do that?

Thanks for helping me..

1) No. The IP401 is not supported on 3.0. In fact support for the IP401 stopped a while back.

Hmm... Interesting sizbut, I thought I saw in that doc it speak about the 401. I'm probably going cross eye'd.

zulma, it's not something you can change in the IP Office. It's something that would have to change at the CO (centeral office) AND, they would not be able to have 2 calls come in on the same line, you could have them setup roll over, so something like the following would happen.

Caller calls 5551234 talks to ext 1234
Caller calls 5551234, busy, rolls to 5551235, then would end up connecting to ext 1235 based on how you have the system programmed it sounds.

I'm surprised they're not able to dial out, unless you're using specific line id's for the users in their short codes. In theory if all 3 of the phone lines are in the same outbound line id group, and your users are using that outbound line id group for outbound calls, then they should be able to place a caller on hold and make another all.

The exact words in Tech Bulletin 36 are "Please also note that IP Office 3.0 software is not supported on the IP401
platform." - the missing .bin file was also a bit of a hint.

Ahh, thanks for the heads up sizbut, haven't messed with any 401's to have run into that as an issue. :)

Just an update.
I called avaya regarding the upgrade to 3.0(40), they were not much help. The advice me to call a vendor or upgrade it and if it brakes ..call us back [in a few words that basically what they said] so I called the people who sold us the ip office. It turns out that it is not adviceable to upgrade to 3.0.(40) if it an International Model. US models, you can upgrade. So I did, upgrade went fine.
