IP Tunnel

We have phone or voice traffic (NBX 100) on our network using a Cisco 3550 switch, it works great.

However, it’s slowing down our network because of broadcasting, I‘d like to put the phone traffic on a different network or subnet. Is it possible to tunnel the voice traffic through our network?

Our main subnet is the 192.168.1.0/24. Currently, our NBX phone system is also on the same network. I’d like to pipe or tunnel the voice traffic using 10.10.100.0/24 through the 192.168.1.0/24. We don’t want to bring new Ethernet cables to every office.

Equipment List:
(1) Cisco 3550 switch (12.2(25)SEB4)
(2) Cisco 2514 Routers (IOS (tm) 2500 Software (C2500-I-L), Version 12.1(5))
(2) Watchguard Fireboxes

What the Cisco IOS configuration on this?

I appreciate any help on this.

Thanks

What sort of broadcasting? VoIP phones and PBXs shouldn't be doing much broadcasting, and definitely not enough to be noticeable on a network.

Why tunnel when you can separate the traffic with two vlans in the 3550?

Jneiberger,
To answer your question, we are using the old 3Com NBX 100 system, one of the first VoIP systems to come out in 2000, obviously it has been discontinued. However, management feels that it’s working just fine, this why I’d like to trunk 10.10.100.0/24 through the 192.168.1.0/24, if it’s possible.

Burtsbees,
I currently have four separate vlans. My main network VLAN1 (192.168.1.0/24) and a VLAN10 (10.10.100.0/24) not being used.

The problem is the cabling. We’ve got one Fibre Optic backbone going to each building. Phone and voice must traffic travel through the one fibre link. I want to trunk or tunnel VLAN10 thru VLAN1, is this possible?

If it is possible, what is the 3550 Cisco configuration for this?
