Here is the situation:

Internal network: 192.168.1.0/24

Machine pool 1: 192.168.1.0/27 and 192.168.1.192/27. Addresses not covered in machine pool 1 are termed machine pool 2.

Requirement:

Get machine pool 1 to cover all internal network. i.e. 192.168.1.0/24 only.

Problem: Need to check this is the case, also just check which IP addresses are currently in machine pool 1 cos I have no confidence in my IP ability.

Well..

the /24 is a standard class C mask.. 255.255.255.0
That gives you one network of 254 IP addresses

192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254 ( 0 is the wire and 255 is broadcast)

Your new IP scheme with /27 ... 255.255.255.224

This gives us 8 subnets and 30 hosts per subnet. Now you need to whack the first range and last off the subnet to account for the "illegal" addresses unless you have subnet zero enabled.

Subnet Mask Subnet Size Host Range Broadcast
192.168.1.0 255.255.255.224 30 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.30 192.168.1.31
192.168.1.32 255.255.255.224 30 192.168.1.33 to 192.168.1.62 192.168.1.63
192.168.1.64 255.255.255.224 30 192.168.1.65 to 192.168.1.94 192.168.1.95
192.168.1.96 255.255.255.224 30 192.168.1.97 to 192.168.1.126 192.168.1.127
192.168.1.128 255.255.255.224 30 192.168.1.129 to 192.168.1.158 192.168.1.159
192.168.1.160 255.255.255.224 30 192.168.1.161 to 192.168.1.190 192.168.1.191
192.168.1.192 255.255.255.224 30 192.168.1.193 to 192.168.1.222 192.168.1.223
192.168.1.224 255.255.255.224 30 192.168.1.225 to 192.168.1.254 192.168.1.255 "Diplomacy; the art of saying 'nice doggie' till you can find a rock" Wynn Catlin

So my machine pool is

192.168.1.1 to 30 and 193 to 222.

I want it to be 1 to 254 so I am right in thhinking I just change the machine pool list to 192.168.1.0/24.

These subnet masks are only used to identify the ranges, the clients always use a mask of 24.

Thanks wyb, you're my hero.
