In my home, I have 3 x W2K Pro (Not Server) PCs connected to a hub and to the Internet through an Ipcop firewall. The Ipcop box provides DCHP and DNS. All works well.
I would like to connect my office laptop (also W2K pro) via a 2nd NIC and crossed cable, to one of the W2K PCs and have internet access on it. (Running another cable from the hub would be tricky and less fun.)
I have tried to configure “Routing and remote access” on the W2K PC with many different configurations all without success.

I would prefer not to touch the config of the (work) laptop (which is configured as DHCP client and works when I connect it directly to my hub)

My questions is, how and to which addresses do I configure the IP of the second NIC and the laptop or how can I configure DHCP to arrange for this to be automatic.

All help is welcome

This will be difficult using your W2K PRo system. You need two things on the 2KPro box,

- Routing (net working very well on 2KPro)
- DHCP forwarder of helper to pass the DHCP messages from you laptop trough the Router (Your 2Kpro) to the DHCP server.

Even if you manage to set up your 2Kpro box as a router, you really need a dhcp forwarder. DHCP messages are broadcast and the don't pass a router.

good luck

OK thanks, pitty and a bit surprising, I guess I start looking at running another cable.

Can I configure the laptop to login with a fixed IP in certain circumstances only? (I.e. office DHCP, home fixed IP)

Thanks

Pete
