please can someone explain 2 me the following command iproute 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 dialer0

does this command have 2 be used on all series router as someone has told me this is what routes traffic to the net but i dont understand why we use zero's?? Hope someone can explain?

Thanks

That is your default route. So any thing that is not matched by a static entry or the likes will go to this destination (dialer0)

ACA - IP Office Implement
ACA - IP Telephony
CCENT - Cisco ICND1
CCNA - Working towards.

0.0.0.0 (any ip) 0.0.0.0 (subnet range) will be sent to (dialer0)

CCNA, Network+

You use all zeros with an all zeros mask, because you dont care about matching any bits. technically, the route address can be anything, but i dont know if the router lets you do this. its the mask of all zeros that really makes it work...

It means that any route the router does not know about always gets forwarded to the dialer interface.
