IP reservation for network printers 1

We have on our network several printers with static IP's, which is ok because their respective IP addresses are reserved from use by DHCP (Windows 2000 Server). We also have two RICOH copiers/network printers that have specific IP addresses, but don't (seem to at least) have identifiable MAC addresses, which I need in order to reserve the IP's solely for their use. The previous NetAdmin guy somehow reserved one of the printers' IP addresses by putting "00" in the MAC field; I was unable to do the same for the second (somewhat-- but not much-- newer) printer, as Windows would not accept my entry (perhaps because the other was already listed as "00"(?)).

My question is this: how do I reserve the IP? I'd like to before I run into a DHCP confliction issue. Also- it seems odd that these printers would not have MAC addresses, has anyone run into this before?

Not sure exactly what your problem is, but they must have MAC addresses.

We normally assign static IP's which are outside of our DHCP range - can you not do this as a simple solution?

Often you can "see" the MAC address by printing a test page of the printer setup settings.

Use arping, or, if you are in Windows, ping the printer and do an arp -a to get the MAC addresses.
