The IP Phone is on the Primary controller running Release 7.1 because of Nice Recording Software, the set fails over to the Secondary controller running Release 4.0 SP3. The set will download the new firmware from the 4.0 SP3 secondary controller, when it fails back to the Primary controller will it a: download the firmware from 7.1 or b: use the 4.0 firmware on the 7.1 controller or c: not work at all?

It will certainly attempt to download the firmware from the primary controller when it fails back.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.

I haven't tried this before and not sure you really want to leave it this way but you could try to remove the TFTP settings on the DHCP scope for the sets. I believe the sets will then be unable to download the firmware and just continue with whatever firmware they have. Again not 100% sure on this.
