IPO500v2 with server using R8.1. application using 3rd party IP Recording system, sniffing the spam ports of switch.

IP phone registered at server, when pick up the handset, internal dial tone is recorded as first event. When user pressed trunk access code, the path goes to IP500 gateway then T1 trunk. at that moment, it recorded as second event. implies that each outgoing calls generate two events with the first event is about 4-5s (as internal) then second event is the actual call duration.

Does anyone know in R8.1, IP phone is registered only to Server?
If it can register to gateway, that means server is pointless?
Can it maintain the call path via server when making outgoing call with IP500v2 gateway?

many thanks for help.

Just sounds like Direct Media Path doing it's job correctly, try turning it off :)
