Hello all.

We have to remote users using IP Phones and they are extensions off of an 403 @ the head office. The question is that when either of the 2 remote workers try to dial eachother it rings the phone but when answered there is no voice connection (voice networking is on), so is there apart from the user creation and the IP route in the Manager program anything else that needs to be inputted into the system?

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Cheers

yep had the same problem, it's their shoddy attempt at H.323, it isnt compliant and some firewalls will drop the voice setup side of the call, you can get around it on some firewalls like Netscreens, apparently in 2.1 their H.323 is compliant and the firewall will be able to handle it.

see posting on "connecting IP4620 Phone over VPN to IP406" it discusses the problem here

I had this same problem, what it turned out for me was that I had only created VPN tunnels from the users back to HQ. I needed to ALSO create another tunnel between the two users.

Also, another way to solve it is to disable the allow direct media path option in the VoIP extension form.

Cheers Morrack i was going to do this but i thought it would then by-pass the 403!

Is this not the case?

Cheers

Turn off allow direct media path on both IP Phone extnsion ports should fix it

[cheers]

Before I do could you tell me what it does please sorry but i know how to set it up but not configure it.

Cheers

Nothing to configure, just untick the box. With it unticked, it will force all packets to pass through the IP403 which will prevent your problem.

If allow direct media path is ticked, the IP403 will only be consulted to setup the call, after which the packets need to be able to travel directly between the hardphones. Creating a VPN tunnel between the two homeusers VPN boxes will accomplish this (at least with Multitech RF550's it did) and thus put less strain on the HQ bandwidth and VPN box.

(Cephas from PBXtech.info)

Cheers i will try that and report back Morrack (Nice to see that you have 2 identities) We have bought some cisco 837 routers and hopefully filter the data from the voice.

Good luck. I only have 2 identities because someone else on tek-tips has Cephas :)

One other question is when we have remote users on there IP hard phone they have to change there static ip address by one this happens every so often. Otherwise the phone dies and cannot be used.

Anyone had an issue with this?

cheers
