Dear friends

on hipath 4000 i encountered problem of gateway not found.recently customer changed its all network switches from unmanaged to managed.now there are cisco 2960 and cisco sg-300 installed when i connect ip phones to these switches i gets message of gateway not found.in optipoint 410 default route is core switch 10. . . 254 and gateway is 10. . .101 and ip of managed swithes are in series of 172. . . .before this on unmanaged switch everythig was working fine

Can you log on to the phone using address of phone

Or can you get in to the menu of the phone and Ping the Gateway ?
If you can ping the gateway then you have a phone configuration problem.

If you can not ping the gateway from the phone then get the network people to resolve it

hi sbcsu,
when i connects ip phone to new network then i am not able to ping even device ip address,

Network Problem.
You have to be able to Ping the phone from the customer network.

Does the phone have an IP address ?
Is it setup with a fixed IP or DHCP ?

Go to phone - get into programming (press 1&3&0 together)
Ping the HiPath STMI card ?

Get into Admin on the phone as above. Go into network settings and look at IP address - is it a proper IP address for the netowrk/VLAN you are on? Is the VLAN setting showing up with the right value? If not there may be an issue with how your network is handling DHCP now, and the phone is not getting an IP address (or subnet, or gateway address) appropriate for your network. If you have a DLS server and the phone cannot see the DLS server it can cause issues - where the DLS server is located is also part of the DHCP scope I think.

Are your phones getting 10.x.x.x IP addresses or 172.x.x.x IP addresses? All the different IP address groups have to be set up to be able to talk to each other.

Have you tried doing a factory reset on one of the phones to see if their is some parameter stuck in there from your old network setup that is causing a problem?

Just some ideas. Once you get the IP address from the first step you should be able to ping the phone, but also note that if your network administrator has restricted communication between sections of the network you may have to be on the same network segment to be able to ping a phone. If that is the case the same thing is happening with your gateway address for the phones.

In one scenario that has happened here our network Admin has two "groups" set up; one for "VOIP Management" (Servers, STMI, NCUI and related) and the other one is "VOIP Devices". When we first started, the VOIP Devices were unable to communicate with the VOIP Management, so that was causing the smae problem are having.

phone have ip addresses ,we enteres ip manually no DHCP or VLAN set and using 10.x.x.x ip for voice and 172.x.x.x for data network.here is on case which is not understandable at one location in same network.there uplink from new cisco 2960 managable switch given to unmanagable old switch when i connects ip phones to old switch it starts and when connected to new switch it shows gateway not found,

I'm not a network specialist so I'm going to bow out, but the little I'm willing to stick my foot out and say is that unless they have a whole set of dedicated switches for Voice, and another whole set for Data, then EVERY switch that has a phone or a VOIP gateway card or other connection to the 4K has to be able to talk to every other one on BOTH networks. So the 10.x.x.x traffic HAS to be allowed to travel everywhere on the 172.x.x.x network, and vice versa, exception places where there is no phone equipment connected.

let's take, for example, your PC in your office that probably has a 172.x.x.x address. That needs to be able to connect to the 4000 for Assistant or Comwin or whatever on the 10.x.x.x network. If those two networks are not somehow bridged or properly routed to find each other that's not going to work. The same thing goes for the STMI card(s) in the 4000 - if that is considered "Data" and has a 172.x.x.x address, and all the phones have 10.x.x.x addresses there has to be some way for them to see each other.

Like I said, I understand the overall concept, but the actual implementation is way over my head (semi-intentionally, I have enough to do) and I couldn't begin to suggest places to look. You may need to hire a qualified VOIP vendor to do a network assessment and help them sort everything out.

If you plug an IP Switch on to the STMI card and setup a phone directly it will work.
Show that to the customer and take it from there.
They have changed the network so they need to work with you to fix this.

I had this same problem with these phones, the solution that worked me was:

1) Enter your phone settings to the web.
2) Then we go to SYSTEM.
3) Then we go to Gateway Settings.
4) We appear two columns with different fields, one says HOME and the other says STANDB.
5) You need to configure standby, just as you HOME.
