I see Nortel has issued some new firmware for their IP Phones. what is the best way to upgrade the phones with a BCM 50 R2 or BCM 200 R4 Should you use an external tftp server and point the phones there or can use use the uftp service of the BCM. Can't seem to find a procedure in the Nortel manuals. Thanks

Download the latest patches to the BCM systems, and the firmware will automatically upload to the IP sets

And on the BCM you would place them in the uftp directory?

It all depends on how you normally apply the software updates.
If loading from your pc, then in Software Update, locate file, and browse to the unzipped folder and it will identify what updates are available.

You can schedule them of a server on your network, but I am unsure exactly regarding that, perhaps of one the other techies on here can offer assistance.

Big BUT here is that there typically is a lag between the release of new firmware and the release of a BCM patch with that firmware included.

And there is the issue that Nortel does not let the end user download the service packs/updates. Can't even pay to download them. In our situation where the units are only used in a closed environment a support agreement is not practical with a vendor so we just make do with what is released to the public on the Nortel website with Guest Privilages.
