Hi all! I am having ICP 3300 system. I am not sure if we can do connection of the phones over the internet. Customer having 3 different sites in three different states. Lets say State A, State B and state C. controller is going to state A. I am wondering whether we can connect phones in the different states B and C still running on the same controller. IF we can, then how can the phones will dial out with that state's STD code? Has anyone done this sort of installation? Thank you all.

having IP phones in one state, connecting to a Mitel 3300 in another, across VPN is not an issue (technically)

there may be issues with whether you are allowed to do this (in terms of bypassing the telco by making calls in this manner)

whether the telco who provides the lines/trunks, to the ICP 3300, can/will allow you to present an out of state caller ID/STD code (on certain outbound calls) is another issue

1. Connecting over public Internet (VPN) will create voice quality issues because your connection will not have QoS (quality of service) control
2. Emergency calling (911) will be a huge issue.
3. Calling next door pizza place at locations B and C will cost you long distance minutes and interstate call.
4. You cannot use local caller ID just because you have no local number.
5. It is possible to use this method as long as you know how to deal with all the issues above and lots of others.

1. I recommend installaing the Mitel Teleworker Blade, this resolves the Qos issues and for future phone deployments it makes it much easier than setting up a vpn for each user.
2. The only way to accomplish the caller id and 911 issues is by using SIP trunk lines. They are pretty cheap and not even a bad idea for redundancy. With SIP you can purchase a DID number for any area code you want and also have the CLEC show a particular address for e911 calling.
We are using this same setup in our office, we have phones in San Diego, Palm Springs Nevada and each has a DID and 911 address.

Thank you all!!

I am also worried about 911 and making local call in other states. Can we use Lim module for other state? how was this option. I have worked with SIP but I find it very difficult to program. May be because of the SIP provider was unable to provide second profile for other state. And I was stuck in the big problem with SIP. Thanks once again.

1. Teleworker will resolve part of the issue and whoever is programming has to know the proper procedure.
2. SIP trunks are nice and way to go. Professional configuration is recommended in order to program them properly for e911

Actually you are correct, it took us 2 months of questioning/reasearching to find the provider that best fit us. e911 should be handled by the provider, do not waste anytime trying to figure this out...too much responsibility.
we chose bandwidth.com for our system solution.
