Well, glad to see that there's a Mitel group out there. I'm fairly new to the PBX world. We have a 200 MX, with a mix of IP phones.

I have 2 questions, and probably more coming.

We're trying to set up a 5224 phone to Call Forward to an external number, yet when we come to the prompt (TO) to enter the number, if we start entering 1-2 digits, it states that the number is INVALID, and we can't enter the external number for thr forwarding. Why would this be? Are we required to change any settings on the PBX? I figured this would be straight forward.

And, does anyone utilize any traffic analyzers foir their Mitel networks. I'm looking for a VOIP analyzer, which can monitor Mitel traffic.

Thanks

I just realized that it seems to take extension numbers, but not a full external phone number.

Any reason why?

Thanks

Going from old notes here....

There's at least 4 pages of typewritten documentation on how to do this, and in my thinking it was something of a kludge to begin with, so summarizing here in a couple paragraphs is likely to leave you with more questions than answers, but I'll try.

The ext where you are attempting to do this needs to have option 208 and option 245 allowed in its class of service (in ext COS and Trunk COS if a trunk call). Opt 200 must be disabled. Make sure that if you want to allow trunk-to-trunk forwarding (incoming to outgoing) that you enable System option 21 as well as have the trunk interconnect restriction allowed (form 30). Likely you already have (default) but check anyway to see that you have a feature access code assigned for feature 03 (Call-Forwarding)

From there you need to assign a button on the set in question to allow feature-key activation of call forwarding, or optionally you can dial the feature code each time you want to change the forwarding. ALso depending on the model of phone you can use one of the line keys to toggle the forwarding on and off.

The speed-call number itself gets programmed as as an "abbreviated dial index number" in form 31. Thus when forwarding the phone, you forward it to the abbreviated-dial number, not the actual number.

As I said, that's a terrible kludge. There's got to be a better way. Maybe one of the fellows who is a SX200 whiz can show us both a better way of doing it.

I just heard back from mitel source that I should program a speed dial number for the external number, and then use that number key for the call forward 'TO' option.

This is a great resource. Thanks for the quick replies.

Well, I just talked to one of our users in our US office, The suggestion from the Mitel rep about assigning a speed key to an external number and then entering that speed key number as the call forward TO worked like a charm.

Yes speeddial is the only way.

It does not have to be a system speedcall in form 31 however.

It can be a personal speedcall, or keyline speedcall as well. This allows greater flexibility at the desktop.
