If the Cat5 cabling is to short can you use a coupler and another cable to extend the length of a cable for the 9611 IP phone/

The ethernet outlet in your wall is a "coupler" between the cable from the data switch (or cross-connect)and the cable to the phone. As long as the end-to-end connection between the data switch and the phone meets ethernet transmission guidelines, then you are OK. Side note that you should be using Cat5E for Gig connectivity.

l never believe in patch work. The cable is not that expensive to get a new long one. Secondly you want to eliminate any doubts if you ever have problems. You may suspect the cable and other things at that time. Use the coupler as a temp fix and get a new long cable.
Good luck

Get a longer cable like kaystel said - a coupler is not a good way to do this.

Thank you for all of the replies. Yes, I am not a fan of using couplers, just feels like we would be creating another failure point. It would be for a temporary fix until furniture could be moved to allow the replacement of a longer cable.
