IP Phone Auto-Provisioning (TFTP) - benefit?

The latest IP Phone firmware supports auto-provisioning using TFTP files. If you have used it, can you provide an estimate of the time-savings (versus manual configuration) achieved either during initial installation or during on-going maintenance? What benefits have you had other than pure time-savings?

mostly time saving...but it also makes administration easier. Example, you need to have a new phone drop shipped to a remote location. Just edit the file for the new MAC and have them plug in the new phone. It also insures that you don't accidentally enter incorrect information for a phone when your programming multiple units.

Look at the IP Phone Fundamentals NTP (downloadable from

http://www.nortel.com/support).

You will also need the latest firmware.

Document number is NN43001-368. Latest version is 05.02 dated 26 May 2009. Go to

http://www.nortel.com/cs1000

then follow "Technical Documentation". Put NN43001-368 in the "CONTAINS TERM(S):" input box, click on the circle beside "Number" and click on "APPLY FILTERS>>". Download the latest document. Look at the "Automatic Provisioning" section. It has example files.
