Is there anyone can advise how the ip phone register to Signaling server. I mean the registration principle.
Here I got the problem that when I connect the ip phone to core switch, it works. When I connect the ip phone to edge swith, it doesn't work, shows that server unreachable. But I can ping from edge switch to core switch.
I suspect that maybe there is some policy set on switch that block the phone registration stream.
Please help...

can you ping the s1 address from the edge?

It's not getting any smarter out there. You have to come to terms with stupidity, and make it work for you.

is the phone getting a good IP address/VLAN try it on partial or static, can you ping from the phone to the S1 address

Do you have a firewall blocking the ports. Ping uses a different port from the sets.

Ping is of little use other than to see if the device is there. IP communications happens on PORTS. You need to make sure that the proper ports are passing through to the far end.

Chances are that you are being blocked on the ports required by the phone to talk to the Signaling Server. The fact that you can ping it, means that you have a network in place between you and the SS. It does not tell you how routable from a port perspective that network is.

TFTP is usually blocked.... and FTP.

Check the "DATA NETWORKING for VOICE over IP" NTP, in
Appendix B gives you a list of ports.

Good luck.
