Any sites out there which have been affected by the recent round of viruses, I mean the IPO cfg or VM Pro data base

Unless specificaly writen a Virus should not be able to target & corrupt & IPO cfg (they use a different processor & do nut run windows as there OS)

It is however posible that the VM Pro file could be corrupted or deleted by a virus.

Virus activity could howevever cause un predictable results while trying to infect the IPO.

(Nimbda used to cause the INDeX CPU X to crash untill it was patched by Avaya)

Does anybody given it any thoughts what would happen if the virus developers starts exploit the TAPI interface instead of the the MAPI.

You could make a massive denial of service attack on any phone number or make a nice pot of gold using a 900 number.

Any thoughts or experience regarding this?

But can they target the cfg file sitting on a PC, then someone does some admin, reloads a f.....d up cfg file???

Dont forget whilst a virus may not be targeting the IPO software or os it could flood your network with unwanted traffic which could have an effect on how the IPO functions on your lan.

Anything is possible if unlikley Grandmaster (Rickuk99 is correct Lan trafic is mnore likley to cause interferance)

If the CFG dose get corupoted between being opened modified & then saved back to the system Hopefully the customers maintainer would have a good backup copy which could be remotley restored.
in a worst casse an eng would be required to default the system before reloading the CFG.

In my experience I would suggest that user erro is more likely to result in CFG corruption than Virus activity.
(we have had one cust corupt his system, require a default & restore, then reload his corrupt cfg again!!!)

No 1 Cause of CFG Corruption - Programmer error!
seting a circular IP route is a great one to cause constant rebooting of the system

IP addr of system 192.168.42.1\24

IP route 192.168.42.0
mask 255.255.255.0
GateWay 192.168.42.1

From memory this should cause an irecoverable crash
(default via DTE Port)
