I have been checking out the line appearance features on our test box and from what I can tell it is very limited. If a line appearance is on a phone, it automatically rings whether it is in the incoming call route or not. Now if Avaya could just add ringing options to the appearances, then I could actually introduce it to our clients.
Things I do like are the phones act more like a Definity/Magix now. With the red light on the idle appearance, a blinking green light on calls that are on hold, and a ring at the phone instead of the beep in the ear with call waiting. Also, the hold ring back is a different ring tone.
