Hi again all,

I have an odd issue I can't figure out or get an answer to:

After some issues getting our IP Office to use NTP (SNTP) correctly we now have the system time set correctly. I can verify this from looking at System Status > Resources > Time as well as looking at Features > System Administration > Time Server Status on a 96xx phone.

The IP Office system time not only appears to be correct but is in exact sync with other NTP aware devices.

The issue is that the phones display the wrong time. They are currently slow by ~30 seconds but this has been as great a 90 seconds slow and usually average around a minute slow.

We are running 1.9.300.120

This happens on both 96xx IP phones as well as 54xx digital sets. In fact, the time on all the phones is off by exactly the same amount.

In addition, we have locations set and one is in a different time zone. The phones there are also slow by the same amount for that time zone.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Works as designed:
I got a detailed description about the reasons why on,y time differences of more than one minute will be corrected. I have to accept it even if I don't understand it. Avaya says it would be too much "work" for the IPO to correct the time of the system and every phone for every small difference.

Wow. Just wow. That's really disappointing. I hadn't come across either of those before.

I have been designing and working on networks for decades and NTP is one of the very oldest Internet protocols. It's *extremely* frustrating that all devices in this day and age don't have accurate time.

In our case we run a call center and users live and die by the time on their phones. I guess I'll buy black tape to cover up the clock on the phones...

Thanks for the help...

You could not use NTP and program the time via the phone instead.

man they must be very picky to whine about the time being off by 30 to 90 seconds, man give me a real problem to work on. If that's your biggest problem on ip office then be thankful

It is hardly my biggest problem with IP Office. Just annoying and causes the users to get in an uproar.

I asked because I though it was a bug and something was broken. But no, it's a design feature.

We have time clocks and PC apps that use exact time. Our users that are on the phone a lot refer to the phone for time. Seems like a reasonable expectation that the time should be correct.

If your cell phones were off by 30-90 seconds everyone would freak out.

But thanks anyway, at least I know now...

You can pickup the handset and just put it down.
This forces the phone to sync to the correct time :)

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!
