IP Office Softphone - No audio except ring tones and dial strings

Hi,

I have an installation of IP Office R7 (Version 7.0 232702), and I recently installed the "Softphone" that came with the admin CD. I can successfully login to the system and view extensions, etc. The problem is whenever I make a call or receive a call, there is no audio. Any suggestions? I've tried both Windows 7 and Windows XP.

Firewall on the PC, Firewall in the local network, Firewall on the remote site, bad IP routing for real time UDP traffic, and another 1000 reasons why it does not work.
It is up to you to start thinking how it works, were can it be broken and start checking the breakpoints.
For us it is in no way possible to help you out.

Well that's reassuring... No client firewall or antivirus, so that can't be it.

if it is not antivirus or firewall then it is almost certainly a routing issue.

switching off Direct Media Path will prove this (It is not a "Fix" the fix is to correct your data network)

the standard process for resolving VoIP issues is:-

1: Check/correct Data Network
2: if fault still present goto 1

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.
Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

The network is as follows:

SonicWall Firewall Interface X0, with VLAN sub-interfaces. The LAN VLAN is 10.1.1.0/24, the Voice VLAN is 10.2.1.0/22.

1. A user directly connected to the LAN VLAN via a Cisco switch connected to X0 can ping 10.2.1.0/22 just fine, and the Softphone application runs (just no audio, only ringtones and dial strings). IP Office Manager works just fine.
2. A user terminated on a VPN connection that places them on the 10.2.1.0/22 network can complete all the same activities as the former example.

turn off the SIP ALG - and I bet it will work

Alternatively - use a "router on a stick" approach to intervlan routing. Personally I wouldn't route intervaln traffic through a firewall - unless there is a very good reason (and you haven't yet provided one)

Please stop trolling, it's not productive. If you have nothing to put on the table to assist, don't comment. I'd rather not hear about children and dishes, this is a technical forum.

intrigrant is no troll! His response to your first post was bang on - you'd provided no information. The response to that was a generic one and tbh 45% of the time is a resolution

next - you say it isn't firewall or AV - fair enough, but still no further details...

As soon as the details are there - tghe problem becomes obvious


AS for trolling - I think the boot is elsewhere!

Enable H.323 Transformations
Only accept incoming calls from Gatekeeper
Enable LDAP ILS Support
H.323 Signaling/Media inactivity time out (seconds):
Default WAN/DMZ Gatekeeper IP Address

OP, put the PC running softphone in the same VLAN as the system or even directly connect, I will bet it works fine then put it back in the other VLAN that pushes it through your Sonicwall, I will bet it stops again but you know where the issue is
