I'm running IP Office 6.0 (7).

Can someone explain the difference between:
Save Configuration as
Backup/Restore
Import/Export

And, if I need to recover IP Office to another machine with the same software installed, are all of these used?

Thanks.

Save as. Saves the config for reload.

Save Configuration as > saves only the configuration as a renamed.cfg file, by default manager saves the config files as <systemname>.cfg when retrieving or saving a config, adjustable in manager/preferences
Backup/Restore > save/restore the configuration file and all binaries
Import/Export > save/restore all or part of the config at .csv(editable) or .bin(not editable0 files

Half a answer is as good as no answer....

Save as is all that someone needs to restore.

The rest is for advanced techs.

Thanks folks. So it sounds like the three are all just different methods of pulling the "running configuration" from the Avaya controller.

If the "Save Configuration" option gives me all that's needed to restore a controller, I should be all set.

Another question, if I may. I've installed a second copy of Office Manager on another PC. My intention is to retire the first and go live with the second. I have already installed VMPro over there and got it's config on to the new PC, and copied the four folders (Accounts, Greetings, etc). I'll refresh those when I go live.

So - given my Avaya controller is healthy, can't I just go to the new PC, open the Manager, and pull the config down from the device? Is that done "automatically" when I open it and select the controller?

Thanks again.

Yes you can get configurations from different PC's

I think you have a wrong impression on how the IP Office works.

Manager pulls a configuration and all changes are offline until you load them back up to the IP Office.
You can pull a config from 10 different Manager programs but the last one to save wins the changes :)
Make sure that in File - Preferences - Security you enable backups of your configurations when you send it back so that you have a backup for every change you make, just in case.

The configuration in Manager is just a reflection on what the system knows and does and is not needed for the functionality of the system.
Voicemail Pro is a different animal and runs only on 1 PC / Server to work.

To backup VmPro you do a import / export and save the .mdb file which has all call flows but no audio in it but you seem to have a handle on that because you copied the folders over.

Thanks Joe.

I do need to make sure that I understand the Manager piece:

I have a live working IP Office controller, already config'd with trunks, extensions, etc.

So I install Manager on a fresh PC. When I start it I can select "Open Configuration from System" - that's all I need to do. It shows me the config that's on the system now. If I change anything in Manager, I just save the configuration (not 'save as') to push it back up to the controller to make it live. No need to export or 'save as' anything (other than as a backup).

That would jive with what you'd said about multiple Managers. If that's correct I think I'll be ok.

As it turns out, the PC I'm retiring also had Voicemail Pro on it, and so when I move it finally to the new PC I have some IP addressing to deal with, i.e. the new PC has to have the same IP as the old one had - that's my current plan - or, alternatively I can change IP addresses that are called out in Manager that point to the Voicemail server's new IP.

You got it with Manager.

You got the Vm switch too, easiest to switch VmPro is to have the new PC use the old IP address, then you don't even have to reboot the IP Office.
Downtime is seconds and I do it all the time during business hours :)

+1 to keeping the new server on the same address as the old one

if the new one is configured off network when running it is a simple matter of just moving the network cable from one to the other
Disruption should be almost UN-noticeable.
