Hi guys
Here's a problem I hope someone can shed some light on as it's got me foxed at the minute.
We have several IP office systems (500v2) bought in two batches a couple of months apart. I upgraded 6 to 6.1 and that was fine leaving the other half at 6.0. Subsequently I upgraded all of the SD cards to R 7 through one system unit i.e. swapping the cards .

So here's the rub, the systems that were upgraded to 6.1 and then to 7 were fine in their system units. The other won't run saying they dont have a valid license in their system units . OK hold on before you jump to conclusions ! because when you look at the licences thay are ll there and say they are valid its only when you try to open SSA that it tells you there is no license and Telephony is shut down.

Wait on before you say Runtime License because here's the relly weird part . When you swap the SD card to the older system units it all works fine ???? and vice versa a SD card that work in the earlier units wont work in the units bought a couple of months later???
Now I though the SD card had all the locking mechanism and licensing held within it, that's the point its and easy hardware swap out as everythings on the card, so why do mine work in some systems and not others ? Stranger still there are a couple of other system which were bought in the second batch which seem to be fine .

Yesterday I downgraded one of the rogue systems to 6 and then upto 6.1 both of which were fine. However when I upgraded again to 7 the problem was back.
Anyway sorry its a long story and I'm sure its something I've missed but I'm scratching my head and could do with a pointer or two .

Thanks Phil

Hi Phil,

Did you buy any runtimes licenses?

The point is that every new system has 90 days where you can upgrade without a license.

If you upgrade within that 90 days then you do not need that runtime license.
You bought those units in two batches so i guess the newer untis can run 7.0 but the older units need that license.

I am not sure if you have those licenses or not.

Yes there were new licenses for the systems and they were all bought last year so we'd be out of the 90 days anyway.
But surely that would apply to the SD card anyway not the hardware, that's the bit I cant fathom why do they work on one bit of kit and not another . My understanding is that the hardware is completely generic ?

Regarding licenses though I've had conflicting info as I've been told the license was required for 6.1 and not for 7 but this is not what it says in the 7.0 docs.

We have Upgrade 3 if I remember rightly which makes me concerned as I've read something that implied you need 4 for r7. Again why then do the systems run ok on some of the hardware.

Thanks Phil
Phil

The 90 days is for the IP500v2 and not for the SD card.
Release 7 is a 4 and 6.1 is a 3

So you cannot run R7 with a runtime license with a 3.

OK I'd need to chek dates but I don't think either set of kit was upgraded in the 90 days and its the newer kit that has the problem ? I take it the 90 days kicks in from first power up then ?

As for the Upgrade license you've confirmed what I though was right, but was told last week by an Avaya guy there was no new license for Rel 7 ?

Looking at one of the systems Licenses all I can find are :-

Small Site Software Upgrade 3
Software Upgrade 3
Small Site Software Upgrade 2

But I've been assured this is all we need but the licences come via a circuitous route as these are training systems.

Looks like we definitely need an upgrade 4 license for all the systems and somehow we've managed to hit the 90 day rule on some of the hardware, but I'm still not quite sure how .

Anyway thanks for your help I'm going to ask the guys to request the license again

Thanks again
PP

The 90 days is from the first power up.
You say training systems.
Are those systems demo systems?
Do you have all kind licenses like teleworker, mobile worker, power user, preferred edition and advanced edition?

If yes then you have power demo license dongles.
Then you can request those licenses for free with your distributor or even Avaya if you are the distri.

And you can get a R7 license too, I did the same last week.

Yes as you say we have a bunble of licenses to cover all of the course modules etc.
The problem I have is the licenses come from the US (we're in the UK) and someone else deals with that side of it. I'd seen some comments about the License level 4 but as the systems we all working hadn't put too much store by it.

I'm assuming the license will be
Software Upgrade 4 ?

Anyway your help has been invaluable and I'll let you know how we get on although I'm in the US till next week now so it maybe a short delay.
Thanks again PP

Yes you need Software upgrade 4.
I think you mean valuable instead of invaluable :)
