Hi all- Longtime Norstar Engineer moving to Avaya world. Am I to understand that outside of the Small Office and the European 401 version are the only switches that have Voicemail built in, or embedded in the switch? And if true, do all other versions need a server outside teh switch? Thanks ahead of time...

Imbeded Voicemail is only available on the IP Small Office with an aditional memory card & the IP 401 with an aditional Voicecompression module & memory card.

All IP office systems are capable of accessing a Voicmail Lite or Voicmail Pro server on an external PC.

Embeded Voicmail only offers basic mailbox operation, No call Queing & no VM to email options

VM Lite is free & will give Basic mailboxes, Basic call Que msgs (You are in a que please hold)& vm to email

VM Pro requires a licence & will give full Auto attendant, call Queing & voice recording services

Min PC Spect for vm Lite is
Pentium 166 networked PC
32MB ram
Win 98/NT4/2k(sp2)/XP Pro/NT4 Server or 2k Server(sp2)

VM Lite is usualy adequate for most applications, I would reserve embedded VM for sites where it is impractical to have a pc permanently connectet to the system (considering the min spec for VM Lite I would consider this a rareity)

Embeded is basic but on the Small Office is does also support up to 4 auto attendants.

I overlooked the SO Autoattendant in an atempt to simplify things. This is however one of the few occasions when I would consider the imbeded VM to be a worth while option.
